The Pride of 2019 has begun the first school year of Henderson Collegiate. What exactly is the Pride of 2019 you may ask?. Any of the 102 fourth-grade students at Henderson Collegiate would answer, we are the Pride. The Pride is a group of lions, and at Henderson Collegiate, it is their motto that the strength of the lion is the Pride, and the strength of the Pride is the lion. Thus, each student is only as strong as the group, thereby encouraging teamwork, support and encouragement of other members of the Pride. As for the year 2019, all of the Pride will tell you that is the year they will attend the college of their choice.

The proof is the Pride of 2009 of KIPP: Gaston College Preparatory, the clay by which Henderson Collegiate has been molded, graduated 100 percent of their senior class and 100 percent of the graduating class had received at least two four-year college and/or university acceptance letters. So, it can be done and it will be done right here in Vance County. But, it takes a community to do so. I would like to extend an invitation to all citizens of Vance and surrounding counties to come by and visit Henderson Collegiate to see for yourself what this exceptionally talented and dedicated group of educators are providing for our children. This school is a public school, and is open to all. We do ask that you call Koy Billings (252-598-1038) or myself (252-431-4563) to make an appointment.

I write with humble thanks to all those that have contributed to this vision. First, and foremost, I would like to thank the school co-founders: Eric Sanchez and Carice Sanchez. This school is their vision of better opportunities through a high-quality college preparatory education for the children of our community. In addition, I offer our sincere gratitude to the businesses, entities, and individuals for their contributions and support of Henderson Collegiate in recent months.
