Public Statement from our Co-Founders, April 21, 2021
Yesterday, we received the news that the police officer who murdered George Floyd was convicted on all of the charges that he faced. It was a victory for the people of Minnesota, as well as for every American who was horrified by the video we saw last summer.
The courage displayed by those who protested, witnesses who spoke up, and members of law enforcement who testified, has provided a collective voice against the abuse of power, racism, and a total disregard for human life demonstrated by this incident, and that has been far too prevalent against people of color in America.
That said, we cannot allow the sense of relief we feel to lead to complacency. We need to increase our efforts as we remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” It is our responsibility to speak up for ALL of those who need a voice, advocate for reform, and teach our children how to be agents of change. Yesterday was a step in the right direction, but that step only matters if we keep on walking.
We are proud to stand with our President, our Vice President, and every American who continues to voice that Black Lives Matter. Finally, and most importantly, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Floyd family and all those who were directly impacted by this tragedy. Your strength inspires us to keep on doing our part in forming a more perfect Union.
With love and resolve,
Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez
