Henderson collegiate shares the christmas spirit

Leaders with the Vance County Department of Social Services released results of their Christmas Cheer campaign on Monday, noting one local school as stepping up in a big way this year. Director Antonia Pedroza said more than 300 families and senior citizens received clothing, personal care items, toys and food this holiday season through Christmas Cheer. Henderson native Jaquell Sneed-Adams will be returning to her hometown to teach after she graduates from Harvard this spring. Jaquell Sneed-Adams couldn’t have imagined when she was growing up in Vance County that she would eventually gain admission to one of the most selective colleges in the country. Charter school ready to build

As Vance County’s newest charter school continues to grow, the school leaders are moving ahead with plans for a permanent facility. The school’s co-founder Eric Sanchez said the bidding and hiring process for a contractor should take place over the next few months. Henderson Collegiatel, which opened in 2010, uses modular units on county property. The Henderson Zoning Board of Adjustment unanimously approved its proposal for a two-story, 45,000-square foot building off Old Epsom Road last March. Willing to step Out and make a change

When Tracey Greenway’s son graduated from Vance Charter, she began to look for alternatives to Vance County high schools. For the Henderson resident, the Vance County Schools system wasn’t an option for her son.
