What to Expect During the Interview Process

What to Expect During the Interview Process

Step 1: How to Apply

Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter along with our online application found at hendersoncollegiate.org/careers. Once your resume and cover letter is reviewed, you will receive a link to record three short answer questions via video, that allow us to get to know you better.

Your resume should:

  • Give a clear, concise picture of your experiences, specifically highlighting those that relate to the position for which you are applying
  • Be no more than two pages, at most
  • Be free from grammatical and/or spelling errors

Your cover letter should:

  • Be addressed to Sharessa Royster, Director of Talent Recruitment
  • Describe how, based on your prior experience, you are a good fit for Henderson Collegiate and for the specific position for which you are applying
  • Demonstrate your understanding of and passion for the Henderson Collegiate mission
  • Be free from grammatical and/or spelling error

Short answer question guidelines:

  • Your responses should be clear and concise
  • You will be given 3 minutes to answer each question
  • Your responses should be genuine

Step 2: Follow-up

After we have received your materials, a member of the recruitment team will contact you if we need more information, or to schedule the next stage of the process.

The next stage will include two steps, an initial phone conversation and a skype/initial visit with the principal. This stage allows you to learn more about the school, as we learn more about you.

Initial visits may be conducted via Skype for out-of-state applicants, or may include an invitation to come and visit the school for an in-person visit for local applicants.

Step 3: In person Interview and Performance Task

After the initial visit, applicants applying for an instructional position will be contacted again by a member of the recruitment team to schedule:

  • An in-person interview with the Principal;
  • A sample lesson with our students; and
  • Any follow-up performance tasks and/or interviews, depending on the position for which you are applying.

Applicants who are applying for non-instructional positions will, similarly, be contacted by a member of the recruitment team to schedule:

  • An in-person interview with the Executive Director or other staff member managing the position of interest; and
  • Any follow-up performance tasks and/or interviews, depending on the position for which you are applying.

During this step, you will be asked about coming to the school in person. This is an important step because it allows you to learn more about the school in person and allows our students and staff members to meet you and interact with you. Each applicant is also offered the chance to receive a 15 minute, Set Up For Success Call, that allows applicants to ask any questions about scheduling, presenting their sample lesson or general questions prior to the interview day.

Step 4: Offer

In the final stage of the process, the Principal, Executive Director, or other hiring authority with Henderson Collegiate will contact you with a personalized offer based on the position for which you are applying and your prior experience.
